I have to give up the fags and I almost did...
I decided to quit the fags for health and money reasons. Man, I don't wannna die of lung cancer. I think that would so embarrassing to actually have to admit I caused my own death.
Anyway, went 5 days without smokes. Then ended up buying a pack. Smoked half the pack (about 15 fags) over 2 days then threw the rest in the bin telling myself how stupid I was and they tasted absolute crap.
Then a day after that, I go out and buy a pack of twenty. I have had about 8 per day.
The thing is, I have asthma real bad at the moment and I know it came on, as is expected, when I gave up for the five days. You know how your lungs clear out all the crap. I've been through this before a few years back.
Well at the moment I am coughing all day, have a headache and am wheezing. Also been taking my asthma medication then, **** me, I must be as thick as a brick, I have a fag and am coughing and spluttering again.
I'm not suicidal yet I am killing myself.
I am too scared to try patches and I don't think I am addicted as such anyway as I don't get withdrawal symptons. I have more association, like a fag after dinner, fag at afternoon break at work ect. If I run out and it's night or I don't feel like going out, then I'll just go without and don't climb the wall. If I am broke, I go without till I can get some money.
ETA: The five days I gave up, I was in a completely different environment from home and work, was overseas spending money and whilst at times I thought about a fag it passed as quickly as it came.

Other Question:
Does depression run in families?

Response:

Gnome I smoke in exactly the same way as you, except my association is just drink related. I can go with out a cig for aaaaaaages - weeks even - but as soon as I have a drink I am GAGGING for a cig.
It's so annoying. It means my hangovers are 300% worse as a result of smoking, and I am losing entire days due to monstrous cig related hangovers. I hate it. The smell, the taste the next morning, my hair, the tightness in my chest.
I can't see how patches/gum alone is going to help me as it's an associated addiction - not just an addiction. I need something to help me snap the habit - maybe hypnotherapy, or acupuncture....?
I am at my wits end :(

Other Question:
Depression and Jealously?

Response:

I feel for you. In the last week I have thrown out two half packs of fags and two lighters, only to have gone stir crazy last night after dinner and went out and bought a pack. All day I went without a fag. Come 8pm, I was ready to smoke the cats tail. I got matches instead, cheaper to throw out. Plus, I bought a small pack that are less strong than I usually have. I'm going to try weaning down in mgs as well.
I don't really know what to advise spleep, but yeah, I hear ya loud and clear. It sucks hey.

Other Question:
What Zodiac sign-long term depression?

Response:

I too keep being full of good intentions to stop - I have not smoked at all today, and have had no cravings either - but as soon as there is a cig in front of me I will smoke it.
I can go for a few hours while I am at work, and then when I go home if my b/f has smokes then I will smoke all evening, only to wake up with the nasty "morning mouth" and the thoughts "I won't smoke today" ... so I don't smoke again, until the evening...
viscious circle!
I tell myself that I won't buy any cigs either, then come payday and I can't wait to get to the shop!
I have read the Allen Carr book, and it did help me to quit - for a little while anyway, I can't remember what triggered me to start again though.
As it is now, I want to stop but don't think I can.
 :( :o

Other Question:
First time on pill - problems.?

Response:

I've stopped smoking at work now, but still at home, outside only though. Have never smoked when out with my friends as they are all non smokers and don't smoke at my parents because they don't approve.
So technically I should be able to give up, but the more I think about it, the more I seem to smoke.
