Please help! Very frightened
I am really nervous writing this and crying as I do so, but I really need some help.
For the last six weeks, I have been experiencing horrible pains in my lower abdominal region. They have been gradually worsening until the point where, in great discomfort, I had to go to the A&E department of my local hospital. They performed an internal examination and said that everything looked fine, but because I was clearly in a lot of pain with no obvious explanation, they referred me to have an ultrasound scan. I had originally thought that it might be a problem with my ovaries, because I have a family history of such problems.
I had my scan yesterday and again nothing immediately obvious showed up so, just to be thorough, the doctor asked if she could perform an internal ultrasound scan. I agreed and this showed that there is a large amount of fluid around one of my fallopian tubes. It showed up as large black circles on the scan and I was terrified by what it could be.
The doctor wasn't able to tell me, but she said that it had most likely resulted from an infection.
I'm really upset, because if this is an infection, my fertility will be greatly decreased and I am desperate to have children one day. It is something that I want more than anything in the whole world. Also, I am worried that this is going to change my feelings for my boyfriend. Or maybe his feelings towards me.
We have been together for nearly four years and I love him so much. He is the only person that I have ever slept with and I lost my virginity to him. He had unprotected sex once about six years ago, but we had thought that he would be okay, because in all that time he has not displayed a single symptom.
I'm just really, really worried and wondered if there was anyone who had experienced anything similar or maybe knows something about these types of problems. Please help me.
x
p.s: I have just received a private message, stating that my symptoms sound like those caused by the condition Hydrosalpinx. Has anyone heard about this condition before? I have just done a search online, but it didn't really produce anything of use.

Low white blood cells - does anyone know what this could indicate?

Hi there
I just had to reply to your post as my heart :throb: really went out to you.
First of all, I hope that by now, you;ve had an opportunity to talk to a medical staff member about this fluid. What does it mean? Can it be drained? Will there be any affects on your fertility? At this stage all you know is that you have some fluid there, and anything else seems like speculation (having said that, I'd be worrying like mad too :( )
You may not be aware that men CAN have a sexually transmitted disease with NO symptoms. The most common one is chlamydia, and I belive your man should be tested for this. As should you. If you are positive, then it seems definite that you will have got it from him.
It's so sad, as many men don't realise they are infected and can unwittingly infect a partner.
If it's the case, then you must BOTH be treated, otherwise he will just reinfect you.
If I were in your shoes, I would go back to the doctor who referred me OR to my local sexual health clinic. Have yourself screened (they are so understanding there and very helpful) and then you will know what is what.
Sending you a big :higgies:. I understand where you are and it's horrible. Hope you can get through this ok.

Good news?

Hi S
chin up hon, my best friend had something similar where she had very similar symptons to you. Hers truned out to be cysts in the fallopian tubes caused by an infection from an unknown source. The docs just said it happens sometimes. During surgery they found that she had cysts on both sides and had to have the cysts removed.
She was told by the surgeon that she wont be able to conceive normally as her tubes are scarred and it could end in an ectopic pg, but she will be able to go for IVF. So there is hope!! I know it is all really scarey at the moment but talk to the docs they will be able to help ease your mind!
